One-Page Summary
Purpose of Testing
This annual laboratory evaluation documents overall health at age 81 and continues the long-term baseline established over the previous five years. The report demonstrates continued stability in metabolic, renal, hepatic, endocrine, and cardiovascular health while showing persistence of a mild reduction in hemoglobin. This study remains an important reference approximately three years before the onset of the systemic inflammatory illness that began in 2021.
Major Findings
Metabolic Health
Results
- Glucose: 86 mg/dL
- Hemoglobin A1c: 5.3%
Interpretation
Glucose regulation remained excellent. Hemoglobin A1c stayed comfortably within the normal range, indicating continued healthy long-term glucose control with no laboratory evidence of prediabetes or diabetes.
Kidney Function
Results
- BUN: 20 mg/dL
- Creatinine: 0.93 mg/dL
- eGFR: 77 mL/min/1.73 m²
Interpretation
Kidney function remained stable and well preserved. Creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate continued to demonstrate healthy renal function appropriate for age.
Liver Function
Results
- AST: 26 IU/L
- ALT: 16 IU/L
- Alkaline Phosphatase: 65 IU/L
- Bilirubin: 0.4 mg/dL
Interpretation
Liver enzymes and bilirubin remained within normal reference ranges, providing continued evidence of normal liver function.
Complete Blood Count
Results
- WBC: 4.5 ×10³/µL
- Hemoglobin: 12.8 g/dL (slightly below reference range)
- Hematocrit: 40.8%
- Platelets: 237 ×10³/µL
Interpretation
The complete blood count remained largely stable. Hemoglobin continued to be mildly below the laboratory reference range, while all other major blood indices remained normal. The persistence of this mild finding established an important historical pattern that later aided interpretation of the more significant anemia associated with the inflammatory illness beginning in 2021.
Lipid Profile
Results
- Total Cholesterol: 185 mg/dL
- LDL Cholesterol: 101 mg/dL
- HDL Cholesterol: 73 mg/dL
- Triglycerides: 55 mg/dL
Interpretation
The lipid profile remained highly favorable.
Key features included:
- Exceptionally high HDL cholesterol.
- Very low triglycerides.
- Only minimally elevated LDL cholesterol.
This continued the consistent lipid pattern documented throughout previous years and remained one of the strongest long-term findings in the Health Inventory.
Thyroid Function
Results
- TSH: 2.170 μIU/mL
- Free T4: 1.16 ng/dL
Interpretation
Both TSH and Free T4 were within normal reference ranges, demonstrating stable thyroid function.
Prostate Screening
Result
- PSA: 3.4 ng/mL
Interpretation
PSA remained within the laboratory reference range, although it continued its gradual year-to-year increase. Routine monitoring remained appropriate.
Urinalysis
Routine urinalysis was essentially normal.
Findings included:
- No protein
- No glucose
- No blood
- No infection
The only minor abnormality was a urine pH of 8.0, slightly above the laboratory reference range. In the absence of any other urinary abnormalities, this isolated finding was unlikely to be clinically significant.
Overall Interpretation
This report documents excellent overall health at age 81. Kidney function, liver function, glucose regulation, thyroid function, and urinalysis remained stable. The lipid profile continued to demonstrate the characteristic pattern of high HDL cholesterol, very low triglycerides, and only minimally elevated LDL cholesterol. Mildly reduced hemoglobin persisted but remained stable. Overall, this report reflects continued excellent physiologic health approximately three years before the onset of the inflammatory illness that would later become a major turning point in the Health Inventory.
Longitudinal Significance
This report contributed to long-term trend analysis of:
- Blood counts
- Kidney function
- Liver function
- Lipid profile
- Glucose metabolism
- Thyroid function
- PSA
- Urinalysis
It confirmed the continued stability of nearly every major organ system while documenting the persistence of mild low hemoglobin without evidence of progressive disease.
Clinical Importance
⭐⭐ Continued Stable Baseline
This report demonstrates that, even at age 81, laboratory findings remained remarkably stable. It reinforces the strong pre-2021 baseline that later allowed the inflammatory illness to be recognized as a significant departure from your previous health status.
Key Changes Since Previous Report
- Hemoglobin improved slightly from 12.5 to 12.8 g/dL, although it remained just below the reference range.
- Hemoglobin A1c improved from 5.6% to 5.3%, remaining well within the normal range.
- HDL cholesterol increased from 62 to 73 mg/dL.
- LDL cholesterol increased modestly from 91 to 101 mg/dL.
- Triglycerides remained very low (44 → 55 mg/dL).
- Kidney function, liver function, thyroid function, and glucose regulation remained stable.
- PSA increased gradually from 3.1 to 3.4 ng/mL, while remaining within the normal reference range.

Observation
Reviewing the sequence from 2013 through 2018, a remarkably consistent pattern emerges. For six consecutive years:
- Kidney function remained stable.
- Liver function remained normal.
- Glucose regulation remained excellent.
- Thyroid function remained well controlled.
- The lipid profile consistently showed high HDL cholesterol and low triglycerides.
- Only a mild, persistent reduction in hemoglobin appeared, without other significant abnormalities.
This 2018 report effectively concludes the period of long-term laboratory stability before the first notable health changes that began to emerge in 2019 and culminated in the systemic inflammatory illness of 2021.
