The opening words of the Bible are among the most profound ever written: “In the beginning, God…” Before there was light, time, space, matter, or life itself, God already existed. Scripture does not attempt to prove His existence—it simply declares it. God is eternal, self-existent, and independent of His creation. Everything else has a beginning; God does not.

Genesis 1:1 establishes the foundation for the entire Bible. It reveals God as the Creator of “the heavens and the earth,” a phrase that encompasses everything that exists. Nothing came into being apart from His sovereign will and divine power. Creation is not an accident or the product of chance; it is the intentional work of an all-wise and all-powerful God.

This verse also reminds us that the God who created the universe is the same God who is active in our lives today. Just as He brought order out of chaos at creation, He is able to bring purpose out of confusion, hope out of despair, and peace out of uncertainty.
